Privacy statement

What we do with your data: nothing.

TrueTrail is built to work without a server. There is no account, no analytics and nowhere your drives could be sent to.

The app

• No account. You don't create a profile with us. Your profile name and photo exist only on your phone.
• Your location stays on your phone. The app uses GPS to call notes and measure times. Positions, routes, drives and sessions are stored on the device only.
• No tracking. No ads, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising ID.
• No cloud backup. The app opts out of Android's automatic backup and device transfer, so your data doesn't end up with a cloud service without you noticing.

Permissions

The app only asks for a permission when you use the feature that needs it.

• Location. For pacenotes, navigation and timing. During a drive or session also with the screen off; a notification then shows that TrueTrail is active. Outside a drive or session the app only uses your location while it is open, for example to show your position on the map.
• Camera and microphone. Only when you record video in circuit mode. Sound is optional. Videos stay on your phone.
• Bluetooth. Only to connect a GPS receiver, OBD reader or action camera that you choose.
• Notifications. For the notification during a drive or session.

When the app uses the internet

Only when you ask it to:

• Downloading a map. The app fetches your region's map files from the server that hosts them: maps.truetrail.nl, hosted by Cloudflare, or GitLab.com if that fails. Like any download, that server sees your IP address and which file you fetch, and therefore which region. No location, account or device ID is sent. The files are checked on your phone against a fixed checksum.
• Sharing. When you share a route, time or session, you choose the app that sends it. You see exactly what the file contains beforehand, and you can leave the trace out. Your own session notes and the names of your Bluetooth devices are never included.
• Over Wi-Fi to another device. Transferring sessions and live viewing go directly over your own network, encrypted, with a code you enter yourself. Live viewing is off by default.

On the road, during a drive or session, the app makes no internet connection.

This website

• No cookies, no analytics, no trackers, no forms.
• Everything, including the fonts, is served from this domain. Your browser does not connect to any other party. If you download a map file on the maps page, it comes from maps.truetrail.nl, the same server the app uses.
• The website is delivered through a hosting service that, like any web server, technically sees your IP address in order to send the page. We don't use or keep that data.

Questions about privacy or the app: contact@truetrail.nl. If you email us, we only use your message and address to reply, and delete them once the question is dealt with. The mail passes through Cloudflare's email service, which forwards it.

If anything above changes, we update this page before the app does.
